Know How To Clean & Sanitise Homemade Masks

New Delhi: Did you know that a mask becomes practically useless if you don’t use it properly? In a bid to check the spread of coronavirus, the Union Health Ministry on Friday issued guidelines on how to clean and sanitize homemade masks.

Here’s how you can do it:

1. Thoroughly wash the mask in soap and warm water and dry in hot sun for at least 5 hours.

2. Alternatively, boil the mask in a pressure cooker for 10 minutes or in a normal vessel for 15 minutes. Adding salt to the water is recommended.

3. You can also dry the mask using an electric iron for 5 minutes after washing with soap.

However, it’s not recommendable to clean disposable masks as the material will wear out while washing.

The advisory has asked everyone to wear masks while stepping out of their homes, especially in densely populated areas. It has listed a detailed guide on making DIY masks at home. You can read more about it here.
