Bhubaneswar: Minutes after revealing the identity of the 5th COVID-19 patient, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday sealed the entire Surya Nagar area as a precautionary measure.
The patient, Pradipta Kumar Dalabehera, is a resident of Plot No 37, Surya Nagar.
Informing the media, BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary said that the areas between Gopabandhu Square and LIC Square, LIC Square and Ganga Nagar Square, Ganga Nagar Square and Siripur Square and Siripur Square to Gopabandhu Square have been sealed.
“The BMC has declared these areas as a prohibited zone and will seal all entry and exit points for people by putting up barricades,” Chaudhary added.
Stating that the BMC will engage a team of doctors to examine the health of the people, he said necessary arrangements will be made for the supply of essential items to the people of Surya Nagar in mobile vans without allowing them to visit other places until further orders.
The civic body had earlier warned people against indulging in any act of social discrimination against the patient and his family members.
