Bhadrak: Gulmaki Dalwazi is one of a handful of candidates who has defeated the BJD, which romped home to victory with a stellar performance winning 76 posts of civic chiefs out of 108 in the Urban Local Body (ULB) elections in Odisha.
Gulmaki is neither from the BJP nor from the Congress. She contested as an Independent and has won the chairperson post of Bhadrak Municipality.
She defeated BJD’s Samita Mishra by a margin of 3,119 votes.
“I thank God for without Him this would not have been possible. I thank all the residents of the 30 wards of Bhadrak. I will work for the development of all the 30 wards,” she was quoted as saying by a news site.
Gulmaki polled 27,143 votes, Samita 24,024 votes, Congress’ Amitbala Acharya 1,836 votes and BJP’s Gitanjali Padhihari 6,633 votes.
Of the 30 wards in Bhadrak municipality, BJD councillor candidates have won in 18, Congress in 10, BJP and Independent one each.
