Bhubaneswar: A joint team of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Commissionerate Police on Tuesday sealed two Kalyan Mandaps — Somanath resort at Sundarpada and Gokhibaba Kalyani Mandap at Kapila Prasad — in the Odisha capital for allegedly violating various norms.
Four more mandaps could not be sealed as these were hosting marriage functions. Rajarani Mandap and Tarini Mandap at Pandra, Manjula Mandap at GGP Colony and Kanak Banquet Hall at Jagamara will be sealed on Wednesday, sources said.
On Monday, the joint team had sealed 10 Kalyan Mandaps, hotels and community centres in the city. One among them was reportedly operating from the premises of Pandit Nilakantha College of Library and Information Science near Janata Maidan.
These venues did not have building plan approvals from BDA, fire safety certificates, trade licences and were not paying holding tax. Besides, these had been creating traffic chaos in the city.
The BMC had served notice on 94 mandaps and 36 of them had submitted compliance reports, the sources added.
