Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday announced a special package for the pandemic-hit weavers of Odisha.
THE PACKAGE
>> Rs 50,000 interest-free loan
>> 15,000 loom pits to be converted into concrete in the next 3 years. Rs 7000 will be spent on each loom pit.
>> 3000 weavers to get house-cum-work shed in the first phase
>> Houses will be provided to weavers on a priority basis
>> Electricity and electrical fans will be provided them comfort while working
The CM said that the handloom business has been profoundly affected by the pandemic in the last two years, and the livelihoods of thousands of weavers have also declined.
The beneficiaries will be selected in accordance with the guidelines of the Panchayati Raj Department, he said.
Various group infrastructure such as CFCs, warehouses, and sales centres will be set up through the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department to store the produce of the weavers, Naveen added.
