New Delhi: A new federal report has revealed that Amazon Com Services LLC is the single largest sponsor of H-1B visas in the US, far ahead of other major tech giants like Google, Apple and Microsoft. The H-1B visa programme, which allows US companies to hire highly skilled foreign professionals in fields such as technology, consulting and finance, remains a critical pathway for global talent to enter the American workforce.
The findings come at a time when the US government has announced significant changes to the visa system, including a steep US$100,000 annual fee for each H-1B worker under a new plan. Officials say the move is aimed at curbing “systemic abuse” of the system, while industry voices warn it could create additional pressure on companies heavily reliant on foreign talent.
The data, released by US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), ranks the firms with the highest number of foreign employees under H-1B sponsorship. It also underlines how consulting firms, multinational technology companies and even financial institutions feature prominently in the list.
