Khurda: Police IG, Central Range Narasingha Bhol on Thursday said interrogation of three accused in a murder case revealed involvement of the head of the Manavbad Sangathan Manas Das leading to his arrest.
Speaking to the media after the arrest of Das and his son Manoranjan, the IG said the Begunia Police on August 3 had registered a case against six persons on the basis of a complaint filed by Basant Nayak of Abhimanpur village in Khurda district alleging their involvement in the murder of his uncle Satyabrata Nayak.
Acting on the complaint, Khurda SP formed a special team and arrested five accused next day and forwarded them to the court. Apart from the six accused, the names of two other persons were also mentioned in the FIR.
“On Thursday, police took three of the six accused on remand for interrogation. During the interrogation, the complicity of Manas Das in the alleged murder was revealed and he was arrested at 4 pm,” Bhol said.
The IG further said on the basis of the statement of the three accused, police have registered a case under Sections 302 (murder), 363 (kidnapping), 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder), 307 (attempt to commit murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence and giving false information), 109 (abetment by investigation), 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC against Das.

Stating that the police are investigating other allegations against Das, the IG said additional cases will be registered against him, if the veracity of these complaints is established.
Manorajan Das was arrested for his involvement in the brutal thrashing of Maguni Nayak and his son Anand Nayak of Kadaba village, Bhol added.
