Know Why CBI May Probe Deleted Data From Mobiles Of Ex-RG Kar Principal Sandip Ghosh & Former Cop

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, is reportedly attempting to retrieve the deleted data from the mobile phones of the former RG Kar principal Sandip Ghosh and ex-OC of Tala Police Station, Abhijit Mondal. Both have been arrested by the CBI for allegedly tampering with the evidence.

The investigating sleuths have got definite clues that data was exchanged between the mobile phones of Ghosh and Mondal on August 9, the day when the victim’s body was found in the seminar hall of the hospital, reported the IANS, quoting sources.

Reportedly, the data was deleted ‘deliberately’ to wipe out the communication trail. The CBI was also in the process of recovering the recordings of the calls made between Ghosh and Mondal from the morning of August 9 till the cremation of the body, the report claimed.

Sources claimed that all the conversations between the two were recorded as the “auto-call recording mode” was switched on their devices. But, such recordings were allegedly deleted.

The deleted recordings may give new leads into the gruesome crime that sent shockwaves across the country and triggered widespread protest. Initially, Kolkata Police had arrested a civic volunteer, Sanjay Ray, for the crime. Later, his custody was handed over to the CBI as the central agency took over the probe following a Calcutta High Court directive.

Though there were allegations of suspected involvement of more than one person in the crime, the CBI in its chargesheet had not named anyone other than Ray, reports stated.

Last week, Mondal had refused to give consent for conducting his polygraph test. Ghosh had refused to give consent for his narco-analysis test. However, Ghosh had earlier given consent for the polygraph test by the CBI.
