New Delhi: Twitter founder Jack Dorsey has said that he is appalled at the current state of the Internet and partially blames himself for it.
“The days of usenet, irc, the web…even email (w PGP)…were amazing. Centralizing discovery and identity into corporations really damaged the internet,” Dorsey tweeted on Saturday.
“I realize I’m partially to blame, and regret it.”
He also questioned Twitter’s decision to ban former US President Donald Trump from the platform. “I do not celebrate or feel pride in our having to ban Donald Trump from Twitter,” he said.
Dorsey said he felt the action set “a precedent I feel is dangerous: the power an individual or corporation has over a part of the global public conversation.”
When Dorsey was still CEO, Twitter funded Bluesky, a decentralized social media system intended to put power back into the hands of users and allow many different social media networks to co-exist.
