Two Lawyers Fight As Saif Ali Khan’s ‘Attacker’ Enters Courtroom; Know Why

Mumbai: The courtroom in Bandra, where a Bangladeshi man arrested for allegedly attacking actor Saif Ali Khan was presented on Sunday, witnessed bit of a drama during the proceedings. Two lawyers jostled to represent the accused, prompting the magistrate for remand proceedings to act as referee. The magistrate reportedly suggested the lawyers to appear as a team, reports claimed.

The Mumbai police on Sunday arrested Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad from Thane for allegedly sneaking into the Bollywood actor’s Bandra home on Jan 16. The intruder allegedly had an intention of theft. He stabbed the actor multiple times after a confrontation, leading to the latter’s hospitalization and surgery.

Amid heavy police deployment, Shehzad was produced before a metropolitan magistrate court in Bandra.

The court asked him if he had any complaints against the police. To this, Shehzad replied in the negative. He was then taken to a box meant for accused persons at the back end of the courtroom. A lawyer then came forward as he claimed to be representing the accused. Before he could take the signature of the accused on the ‘vakalatamana’, another lawyer jostled his way to the accused box and took Shehzad’s signature on his vakalatamana. This led to confusions.

“You both can appear,” the magistrate said to control the situation. And, the duo agreed to his suggestion. The court subsequently remanded Shehzad in police custody for five days.
