Koraput: Kolab dam authorities have decided to open the sluice gates due to rising water level and IMD forecast of more rain on Saturday.
According to sources, the water level in the reservoir had gone up to 585 metre till Friday evening. The dam’s maximum water holding capacity is 857 metre.
With the rain continuing in the upper catchment area of Kolab river, the dam authorities apprehended further rise in the water level of the dam. Besides, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall on Saturday on the impact of low pressure over Bay of Bengal which is expected to intensify into a depression in 24 hours.
