Kolkata Airport Resumes Operations Post Amphan

Kolkata: A day after cyclone Amphan unleashed its fury, Kolkata airport authority resumed operations from 12 pm on Thursday.

“Kolkata airport back to operation from 12 pm today after cyclone Amphan ravaged at a wind speed of 130 km per hour,” said an official statement issued by the airport authority.

It further stated, “First flight, a chartered plane landed at 14:31 hrs for the evacuation of stranded Russian nationals. The first departure was SpiceJet cargo flight for Delhi.”

The Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Air India, Rajiv Bansal, had informed that a small private aircraft parked in a hangar was damaged due to Cyclone Amphan.

A video of flooded airport and damaged roof was circulated after the first visuals of destruction surfaced online. 

However, Kolkata airport authority shared visuals of a fully functional airport after recovering from the damages.
