Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Monday granted Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) permission to conduct a polygraph test of Sanjay Roy, prime accused in the sexual assault and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

The test could be carried out on Tuesday.

Kolkata Police had arrested Roy a day after the semi-naked body of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the state-run hospital’s chest department on August 9.

Roy, who joined Kolkata Police as a civic volunteer in 2019, is now in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody after the central agency took over the case five days ago on the high court’s order.

CBI carried out a psychoanalysis test of Roy on Saturday, with sources saying that he didn’t cooperate with the investigators.

According to police, Roy was allegedly married at least four times and was a ‘womaniser’.

Thousands of protesting doctors believe that Roy can’t be the only perpetrator of the brutal crime, as the autopsy report has revealed 16 external injuries on the victim’s body, including abrasions on her cheeks, lips, nose, neck, arms and knees. They believe that the state administration is trying to hide some influential persons.

CBI Grills Ex-Principal For Fourth Day

Meanwhile, CBI interrogated Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG College Medical College, for the fourth consecutive day.

Ghosh, seen by many as an extremely influential person who is behind an attempt to hide real culprits, was asked to specify his role after getting the news of female junior doctor’s death, who all he had contacted and why he made the parents wait for nearly three hours, PTI reported quoting an official.

Ghosh, who resigned two days after the doctor’s body was found only to be appointed principal of another state-run medical college in Kolkata the same day, was also asked who ordered the renovation of rooms near the seminar hall at the emergency building of the hospital after the incident.
