Kolkata: West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose, who has been at loggerheads with the state government over several issues including an allegation of sexual harassment against him by a Raj Bhavan female employee, on Friday blasted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

As public outrage and attacks by the Opposition grew over the gruesome sexual assault and killing of the 31-year-old trainee doctor, the Governor said the CM “was behaving like Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.”

“The chief minister saying hang the person and then continue the trial sounds like a Roman emperor’s voice. The chief minister is behaving like Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and people know who is what,” Bose said during an exclusive interview with India Today.

Mamata said on Friday

that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has taken over the investigation on Calcutta High Court’s order, should ensure the hanging of the guilty and complete the probe by August 18.

‘Jekyll and Hyde’ is used in reference to persons with contrasting nature to their personalities, one good and the other evil, drawn from Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous novel ‘Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’.

The Governor also alleged complete police failure, ponting to ‘tardy’ investigation.

“I have already written a lengthy letter to the chief minister after the incident which took place at the RG Kar Hospital and suggested to her the action that needs to be taken and also demanded a report from her under Article 167 of the Constitution. Notably, in the last 5 years, I have sent 30 such letters to which no replies were given. This is unconstitutional,” the Governor said.
