Kolkata: It is not just former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital—Sandip Ghosh—and the accused in the rape and murder of trainee doctor, Sanjay Roy, who will undergo polygraph test by the CBI. The central probe agency will also conduct polygraph tests on two trainee doctors, whose fingerprints were found in the seminar room—the crime scene, reported the India Today. A staffer and an intern would also undergo the test, India Today report stated.
Earlier, the CBI had presented Ghosh and four other doctors, who were on duty on August 9 (the night of the incident), to a special court to seek permission for the lie detection tests on Thursday, reported the News 18.
Such tests require both court approval and the suspect’s consent. According to reports, the Special Court granted the CBI’s request.
Why lie-detector tests for trainee docs, staffer?
The two trainee doctors, who would reportedly undergo the test, were on duty with the victim—a 31-year-old trainee doctor— the night of the incident. They had dinner together before retiring to the seminar room, reported the India Today.
The house staff member, who will also take the test, was reportedly seen on CCTV footage going to the third floor from the first floor emergency ward, the report claimed. Another intern, who was on the same floor and interacted with the victim before she went to rest, would also undergo the lie-detector test.
The medical reports, including DNA evidence from the victim’s body, do not conclusively link these four individuals to the crime. But, the CBI wants to find out if they played any role in tampering evidence or were part of any conspiracy, sources told the India Today.
