New Delhi/Kolkata: The Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) will hold a peaceful protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Saturday to demand justice in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 in Kolkata.

Besides Kolkata, doctors have been holding protests in different states to demand justice for the victim, whose semi-nude body was recovered from the seminar hall of the state-run hospital earlier this month.

In the wake of the incident, doctors across the country have also been demanding better security laws for healthcare professionals.

No sign of relent in stir by junior doctors at RG Kar

Meanwhile, the agitation by junior doctors at the RG Kar Hospital entered its fourth week on Friday, with no sign of relent. Doctors of private hospitals in Kolkata also took out a massive rally in Kolkata’s Alipore area on Friday, expressing solidarity with the RG Kar juniors.

Kolkata docs now want resignation of police top cop

Moreover, doctors in Kolkata—who have announced that they will provide teleconsultation services to patients—have decided to intensify their agitation. They have decided to march towards the headquarters of Kolkata Police at Lalbazaar area in Kolkata to demand the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner, Vineet Goyal, alleging laxity and ineffectiveness in handling with the case.

The brutal incident has sparked massive outrage across the country. Earlier, the Kolkata Police had arrested one Sanjay Roy—a civic police volunteer at the hospital—in connection to the case. The probe was however transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation following the directive of Calcutta High Court. The CBI had so far conducted polygraph test on the accused, former Principal of RG Kar Medical College—Sandip Ghosh, who is facing allegations of graft and irregularities—and four other colleagues of the victim, who were on duty along with her. But, the CBI has made no arrests so far even as the victim’s family and several others have alleged involvement of multiple persons in the crime.
