Puri: A woman was allegedly gang-raped for over 10 days at Konark in Puri district.
According to sources, she was being held captive in a room at Konark Market Complex, about 2 km away from the Sun Temple, and allegedly forced into prostitution.
The incident came to light after the woman in her late twenties managed to slip out of the room and screamed for help from the terrace. She was rescued by locals and police with the help of fire brigade personnel, who broke open the door of the room.
The woman, who was bleeding and writhing in pain, was immediately rushed to Gop community health centre and later shifted to Puri district headquarters hospital.
A native of Howrah district, she was escorted to Konark by a middleman who promised her a job, the sources added.
Meanwhile, Konark police have seized a couple of cards identifying the prime accused and initiated an investigation on the basis of the woman’s statement. The house owner and the woman, who brought her to Odisha, are reportedly absconding.
