Bhubaneswar: The 35th Konark Festival and the International Sand Art Festival will take off on Chandrabhaga beach in Odisha’s Puri district from Sunday.
Organised by the Tourism department, Odia Language, Literature and Culture department and Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi, the two festivals will continue from December 1 to 5.
Eminent dancers from across the country will present their performances in an open-air stage against the backdrop of the 13th century Sun Temple during the Konark Festival. They will perform Odissi, Kathak, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Bharat Natyam and Mohiniattam in the evening of all five days.
The local administration has completed all preparations including decorated open-air stage, attractive gates and lighting work for the dance festival.
The Tourism department has announced a special tour package to attract visitors to the festivals. Puri Collector, SP and senior officials of the Department reviewed the preparations on Saturday.
In the International Sand Art Festival, total 129 artists from the state and the country besides eight from abroad will create sand sculptures. As many as 35 stalls have been put up for them to showcase their creations.
