Koraput: After battling for life for nearly 15 days, an alleged gang-rape victim died while undergoing treatment at Saheed Laxman Nayak (SLN) Medical College and Hospital in here on Thursday.
The 32-year-old married woman of Siadimala village under Jeypore block in Koraput was allegedly gang-raped by two youths of the same village on December 5.
Tension prevailed on the hospital premises as villagers accused the hospital authorities of medical negligence, leading to the death of the woman.
The woman was initially admitted to Koraput district headquarters hospital in a critical condition and later shifted to the SLN Medical College and Hospital when her condition deteriorated.
Husband and mother-in-law of the deceased had lodged a complaint at Jeypore Sadar police station. Based on the complaint, police had arrested the accused duo, identified as Kamal Lochan Dandasena (25) and Ramesh Dandasena (25).
The deceased woman’s husband is suffering from mental illness and her mother-in-law is visually-impaired.
