Mumbai: Celebrated Bollywood singer Kumar Sanu took to his social media handle recently to issue an apology for his son Jaan Kumar Sanu’s controversial statement in the ‘Bigg Boss’ house.
Kumar Sanu shared a video on his Instagram handle, in which he said that he is really disappointed over his son’s anti-Marathi remark and he can never think about insulting any language.
The singer further stated that he is grateful to Mumbai and Mumba devi as he earned fame and wealth here in the city.
“I heard that my son Jaan said something very wrong that never crossed my mind or could have crossed my mind in these 41 years. Maharashtra, Mumbai and Mumba devi blessed me and gave me name, fame and everything else. I can never think of such things about that same Mumba devi and Maharashtra. I love and respect all languages of India. I have sung songs in different languages,” said Kumar Sanu in the video.
“I have not been living with them for 27 years. I don’t know what kind of upbringing his mother has given them. It was really wrong of him to speak like that. Anyone would have gotten offended by the same. As a father, I would like to apologise for his actions. I have always respected Balasaheb Thackeray and the party. I hope they accept my apology,” he added.
Earlier, Jaan Kumar Sanu had apologised to the people of Maharashtra from the Bigg Boss house. The apology video was shared by Colors on their Instagram handle.
In a recent episode, Bigg Boss called Jaan in the confession room and he apologized on the show and said that he unwittingly hurt the sentiments of Marathi-speaking people.
Following the controversy, Jaan’s mother Rita Bhattacharya had told ETimes TV that his son didn’t understand Marathi, so he had asked the inmates to not speak in that language.
He never had any intentions of insulting Maharashtra or the Marathi language, said Jaan’s mother.
“I am requesting everyone to please let this be a game show and not make it a controversial thing. The clip which is being talked about where Nikki Tamboli and Rahul Vaidya are talking in Marathi and Jaan simply asked her to stop talking in that language because he did not understand the language. How can we insult the Marathi language? We have been living in the state for the last 30-40 years, so how can we insult that state or language?” expressed Rita.
