Mumbai: After veteran actor Mukesh Khanna, noted poet Kumar Vishwas left netizens irked with his veiled ‘Ramayana’ dig at actress Sonakshi Sinha and her father Shatrughan Sinha.
“Teach your children about Ramayana. Otherwise, it might so happen that while your house is named ‘Ramayana’, someone else might take away your household’s ‘Lakshmi’,” Kumar Vishwas said at a poetry event in Meerut.
Vishwas’ remarks appeared to be a jibe at Sonakshi Sinha and her father because Shatrughan’s Mumbai residence is named as ‘Ramayana’ and the actress recently got married to her long-time Muslim boyfriend Zaheer Iqbal.
Soon, Vishwas’s remarks went viral on social media and drew the ire of netizens. While some said that the poet’s remarks revealed his true thinking, others questioned him as to why he was so interested in someone else’s marriage.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate also called out the former Aam Aadmi leader for his remarks.
“By doing this, you can already guess to what extent you have fallen,” she wrote on X.
“Your words ‘otherwise someone else will take away the Shrilakshmi of your house’. Is a girl some kind of thing that someone can take away somewhere? Till when will people like you keep considering a woman as the property of her father first and then of her husband?” she continued.
The Congress leader asked Vishwas to apologise for his remarks and stated that neither Sonakshi nor Shatrughan need his “certificate”.
Recently, Sonakshi Sinha gave it back to the ‘Shaktimaan’ actor Mukesh Khanna for commenting on her upbringing just because she was unable to answer a question related to Ramayana on Amitabh Bachchan’s KBC.
