Bhubaneswar: Scores of BJP workers on Tuesday clashed with the police near Master Canteen Square during their march to gherao Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence here demanding CBI probe into Kunduli gangrape victim who committed suicide on Monday.
Police resorted to mild lathi-charge to disperse the agitators after they breached the security barricade near Master Canteen Square on the way to gherao Naveen Nivas.
Several activists of the saffron party were arrested following the violent protest.
Meanwhile, another group of party activists staged a mass dhrana at Sisu Bhawan Square demanding resignation of the Chief Minister and CBI probe into the case.
Several parts of the state witnessed a pitched battle as the BJP and Congress workers took to the street separately over the same demand.
“The Class-IX girl student committed suicide on Monday evening as she was under tremendous pressure and denied justice owing to the failure of the state government in delivering the same. So, we demand that the Chief Minister should resign on moral ground and a CBI inquiry be conducted to reveal the fact”, a senior BJP leader said.
