Kunduli Suicide Case: NHRC Probe Team Arrives In Koraput

Koraput: A five-member special team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) arrived at the Koraput district headquarters in the afternoon on Monday to probe into the suicide of the minormrape victim in Odisha’s Koraput district.

The team, led by DSP Rabi Singh, during its five-day visit, would visit Kunduli and later meet her family members at Musaguda village to ascertain the cause and circumstances that had forced the girl to commit suicide. Besides, the team would also interact with the villagers.

“In course of our investigation, we will interact with the family members of the victim. Besides, if anyone is willing to provide more information, he/she can meet us at the Circuit House here on or before February 8,” Singh told newsmen soon after arriving in Koraput.
He also said the team would meet the Investigating Officer (IO), the doctors who had treated the victim and those who had counselled the victim after her alleged gang rape.

The team will leave for New Delhi on February 9 and submit its report to the Commission within 15 days.

The Commission had taken the decision to probe into the incident in response to a petition filed by Human Rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy.

Later it had directed the NHRC DG (Investigation Division) to constitute a special team to probe into the case.

This apart, the Commission had also asked the Additional Director General (ADG), Odisha Human Rights Protection Cell to furnish a report on the circumstances that forced the rape victim to commit suicide.

It had also asked the state government to submit detailed reports on the status of the investigation into the case till date, the statements of the victim, medical reports pertaining to the types of treatment the victim was provided and the counseling of the victim.

Besides, the Commission had sought detailed reports from other departments of the state government that had investigated into various aspects of the incident.
