Bhubaneswar: A five-member team of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) will arrive in the state capital on Monday to probe into the suicide of the rape victim minor girl in Odisha’s Koraput district.
The team, led by DSP Rabi Singh, during its five-day visit, would visit Kunduli where the victim was allegedly gang-raped and later meet her family members at Musaguda village to ascertain the cause and circumstances that had forced the girl to commit suicide. Besides, the team would also interact with the villagers.
The team will leave for New Delhi on February 9 and submit its report to the Commission within 15 days.
The Commission had taken the decision to probe into the incident in response to a petition filed by Human Rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy.
Later it had directed the NHRC DG (Investigation Division) to constitute a special team to probe into the case.
This apart, the Commission had also asked the Additional Director General (ADG), Odisha Human Rights Protection Cell to furnish a report on the circumstances that forced the rape victim to commit suicide.
It had also asked the state government to submit detailed reports on the status of the investigation into the case till date, the statements of the victim, medical reports pertaining to the types of treatment the victim was provided and the counseling of the victim.
Besides, the Commission had sought detailed reports from other departments of the state government that had investigated into various aspects of the incident.
