Kurukshetra: A woman in Haryana allegedly killed her husband by cutting open his abdomen and was reportedly seen trying to collect his exposed intestines in a plastic bag before leaping from the terrace of their rented home, police said on Monday.
The incident was reported on Saturday from a house located along Pehowa Road. The deceased was identified as 40-year-old Rajesh, a native of Dhampur village in Uttar Pradesh. He had been residing at the rented property with his wife, Vimla Devi, for nearly a year.
Landlord Rinku told police that he heard the couple engaged in a heated argument at around 5 pm. He then went upstairs to the terrace, where he allegedly found Rajesh lying in a pool of blood with a severe injury to his abdomen.
Rinku further claimed that Devi was attempting to place Rajesh’s protruding intestines inside a plastic bag. On allegedly seeing the landlord, she panicked and jumped from the terrace. She sustained serious injuries, including damage to her spine, and is receiving treatment at a hospital, as reported by The New Indian Express.
Three knives of varying sizes were recovered from the house, police said.
The autopsy added a new twist to the case, revealing that nearly half of Rajesh’s liver and his right kidney were missing. Doctors also found an approximately 37-centimetre-long incision on his abdomen, through which his intestines had protruded.
Police are now trying to establish how the organs went missing and whether their disappearance is directly connected with Rajesh’s death.
According to the landlord, Devi practised jhaad-phoonk, a traditional method linked to healing and exorcism. He also said the couple regularly had disputes. Rajesh and Devi had been married for several years but did not have any children.
Investigators said they have not yet determined the motive behind the alleged killing.
Adarsh police station SHO Surender Sandhu said the woman would be questioned after doctors declare her fit. Police will decide on her arrest and interrogation after examining the evidence and completing the probe.
