Puri: A 38-year-old Kyrgyzstan national, who had reached Odisha’s Puri in a miserable condition after losing his passport, visa and money in Vrindaban, is now getting help from the police and social activists in the pilgrim town.

Steps are being taken to send back Ulluk Bek after some social activists spotted him loitering near Shree Jagannath temple and inquired about his identity. The man narrated his plight and expressed his desire to return home.

Police authorities were informed about the plight of Bek, who had lost all his money and documents required to return home. He was rescued by police and put in a shelter home.

According to Bek, his father was a follower of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). He developed a love for Sanatana Hindu Dharma (religion) during his college days by reading books of ISKCON brought by his father.

Bek, who has parents, two sisters and a brother back home, reached Delhi in 2017 and joined ISKCON to become a ‘Sanatani’. He spent four years in the ashram practising the Sanatani way of life and then visited Vrindavan where he lost all his travel documents along with money.

Unable to sustain himself at Vrindavan, he travelled to Puri by foot in May 2022 and reached the pilgrim town last week, Bek was quoted by TNIE as saying.

On his way to Puri, he was helped by people who were generous enough to provide him food. Bek expressed his gratitude to Lord Jagannath who came to his rescue. After Puri police verified his statement and antecedents, all arrangements are being made to send him to his country.
