Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old woman was duped by a 30-year-old lab technician who convinced her for a vaginal swab for “an accurate COVID-19 test result”.
The woman works at a mall in Amravati district and one of her co-workers had tested positive, following which 20 of them were asked to get tested.
She went to the Trauma Care Testing Lab of the Badnera government hospital where the technician Alpesh A Deshmukh called her back for a second test involving vaginal swab saying that she had tested positive for COVID-19. She asked if others had to undergo a vaginal swab test for accurate results as claimed by the man, to which he denied.
She went for the second test and the accused took her vaginal swab. He then called back and said her report was negative. On suspicion, the woman informed her brother who consulted a doctor. The doctor confirmed that vaginal swabs are not taken for COVID-19 tests.
She filed a police complaint after which the police arrested him under rape and molestation charges, reported IANS.
The right way to take a swab for COVID-19 test is through the nose as shown in the photograph above.
