Labour Service Rules Amended To Ease Career Path For ALOs & RLIs In Odisha



Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet on Friday approved key amendments to the Odisha Labour Service (Method of Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2019.

The amendment provides much-needed relief to Assistant Labour Officers (ALOs) and Rural Labour Inspectors (RLIs), who were appointed before the 2019 rules came into effect, as it is expected to resolve uncertainties regarding their career progression. “Through this amendment, the concerned officers will be able to regularise in the Odisha Labour Service and will also be considered eligible for promotion to higher posts,” an official re

As part of the same amendment, the departmental examination syllabus has been revised to incorporate the recently enacted criminal laws.

New Rules for ESI Ministerial Staff

In a separate decision, the Cabinet gave its nod to the framing of the Odisha Employees’ State Insurance Scheme Ministerial Service (Methods of Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2026. These new rules will govern the recruitment, promotion, and service conditions of ministerial staff employed in ESI hospitals and dispensaries in the state.

Streamlining ESI Medical Staff Recruitment

The Cabinet also approved amendments to the Odisha Employees’ State Insurance Medical Service (Methods of Recruitment and Conditions of Service) Rules, 2014. The revisions are designed to streamline the recruitment process for medical personnel and ensure fairness in evaluation, while aligning the rules with prevailing examination practices and administrative requirements.
