Dhenkanal: A labourer died and another sustained critical injuries after being hit by a JCB on Dhenkanal-Kamakhyanagar Road in the district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Mani and the injured person as Samsuddin. The duo hailing from West Bengal was engaged in construction work for an over bridge by CRMS at Gengutia level crossing.
Samsuddin was rescued by some locals and rushed to the district headquarters hospital in a critical condition.
Sources said the incident took place when the two were crossing the road to go to a nearby shop for breakfast.
Following the mishap, the truck driver fled the spot with the vehicle.
