Jharsuguda: A labourer was electrocuted to death after coming in contact with a 22-KV live electric wire at Kukurajangha village under Badamala police limits in Jharsuguda district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Pramaraj Sahu (46).
According to reports, Premaraj had gone to a water body near his house to take bath when an overhead electric wire snapped and fell on him. He was rescued by some villagers, who took him to a local hospital. However, he succumbed on the way to hospital.
Irked over the incident, a group of villagers gheraoed the local GRID office alleging that lack of proper electrification in the area had led to the mishap.
The situation was brought under control after the district collector rushed to the spot and assured the agitators that a compensation of Rs 20,000 will be provided to the family of the deceased from the Red Cross fund. Similarly, he also announced Rs 15,000 compensation from the electrical department and Rs 2,000 under Harischandra Yojana.
