Labourer Engaged In Drain Construction Work Dies In Wall Collapse In Cuttack

Cuttack: One of the labourers engaged in drain construction work was killed and two others were injured in a wall collapse in Odisha’s Cuttack city.

According to sources, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) had awarded the contract of the drain construction to a contractor in Bidanasi of the city. The contractor had engaged at least five labourers in the drain work.

While the labourers were digging the soil as part of construction work, the boundary wall of a private residential building, close to the spot, collapsed and fell on them.

Three labourers got trapped under the debris of the wall. The locals rushed to the spot and brought the three labourers from under the debris. But one labourer had died due to the mishap.

They admitted the two other workers in a nearby hospital in a critical condition.

On getting the information about the mishap, police went to the spot and sent the body of the labourer for post-mortem. They have registered a case and started investigation.

It may be noted that a sanitation worker had died after falling into an open drain while he was engaged in cleaning work at Baxi Bazaar in the city on July 19 last year.
