Angul: A labourer was killed and two others injured during a demolition drive near a check gate at Budhapanka under Banarpal police limits on National Highway-55 in Odisha’s Angul district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Sipu Sahu of Kurdul village, while the two injured labourers are Ajit Sahu of Badakera village and Jayant Sahu of Kurdul village.
According to reports, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had given notice to the people to vacate the encroached area for the expansion of the NH-55.
As per the schedule, the NHAI authorities began the eviction drive on Friday. While the labourers were breaking a house, the entire roof suddenly collapsed killing Sipu on the spot.
The incident took place around 11 am.
Following information, a Fire Brigade unit rushed to the spot and rescued the two labourers, who were shifted to the district headquarters hospital. Their condition was stated to be stable.
