LAC Standoff: India, China To Resolve Differences As Per Bilateral Agreements

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Sunday that India and China have agreed to resolve border issues in accordance with bilateral agreements.

The MEA statement comes a day after army commanders of both countries held a meeting to discuss the tense situation prevailing along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh.

The meeting was stated to be held in a positive atmosphere and could be the first of many as dialogue and discussion will continue at the military and diplomatic levels.

The MEA stated that peace along the India-China border regions are vital for bilateral relations between the two countries.

The border dispute stems from the disagreement over the exact location of the LAC in different areas. While India claims that the LAC is 3,488 km long while the Chinese say it is 2,000 km.

“Both sides also noted that this year marked the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and agreed that an early resolution would contribute to the further development of the relationship. Accordingly, the two sides will continue the military and diplomatic engagements to resolve the situation and to ensure peace and tranquility in the border areas,” the statement by MEA read.
