Balangir: The lagna (auspicious time) of ‘Nabanna Lagi’ ritual (offering of new rice) on the occasion of Nuakhai has been finalised.
The Pundit Mahasabha in Balangir fixed the timing between 10.19 am and 10.40 am on September 11 as per the age-old tradition and astrological calculation.
On the auspicious occasion, all households of the district will offer Nabanna to their presiding deity Goddess Pataneswari and Samaleswari as a mark of gratitude for good harvest, rain and favourable weather for farming.
Nuakhai is the most important agrarian festival in western Odisha and is celebrated with pomp and gaiety in several districts like Sambalpur, Balangir, Bargarh, Sundergarh, Kalahandi, Deogarh, Jharsuguda Boudh and Sonepur.
