Lucknow: Union minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra, main accused in Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, surrendered before the magistrate on Sunday and is back in the district jail.

The

on April 18 and ordered him to surrender within a week. He did so a day before the deadline was to end.

Setting aside Allahabad High Court’s order granting Ashish bail, the apex court had said: “The high court exceeded its jurisdiction, denied victims their right to participate in proceedings.”

Ashish’s SUV allegedly ran over farmers who were protesting against the Centre’s three controversial farm laws – which were eventually repealed – in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri district on October 3, 2021.

Four farmers were killed in the incident, while three BJP workers and a journalist lost their lives in the violence that followed.

Ashish was arrested on October 9 and granted bail in February, 2022.
