Balasore: An updated version of supersonic cruise missile ‘BrahMos’ was test-fired from Chandipur’s ITR 5 launchpad in Balasore at 10:15 am on Monday.
The range of this new land-attack version of the missile has been extended to 400 km from the original 290 km. The speed, however, has been maintained at 2.8 Mach (almost three times the speed of sound).
The land-attack version of the missile was earlier test-fired in November last year followed by its anti-ship version a month later, from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands territory.
The missile is being produced by BrahMos Aerospace, an India-Russian joint venture, and it can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, and land platforms.
