Rourkela: The district administration clamped Section 144 at Sector-21 of Bhawanipur in Rourkela on Sunday following tension during a land acquisition.
According to reports, tension erupted when members of two groups scuffled over acquisition of land for a sewage treatment plant. While one group demanded that the land be for religious activities, the other opposed it, said a police officer.
Apprehending trouble, the district administration issued restriction under Section 144 to prohibit unauthorized entry into the piece of land. “A total of five platoons of police force have been deployed at the spot to prevent any untoward incident. However, the situation is under control now,” the officer added.
