New Delhi: Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad, his wife and another ex-CM Rabri Devi, their daughter Misa Bharti and 13 others have been named in a chargesheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with an alleged land-for-jobs scam during his tenure as Union Railway minister.
Lalu’s daughter Misa Bharti and a former general manager of the Railways have also been named as accused in the charge sheet filed before a special CBI court recently, they said.
CBI’s enquiry — related to the land-for-jobs case — on September 23, 2021 was converted into an FIR on May 18, 2022.
CBI has claimed that candidates were appointed as substitutes in group D positions within three days of applying in “undue haste”. Later, Railway officials regularized the appointments when the “individuals themselves or their family members transferred their land.”
CBI has also alleged that about 1.05 lakh square feet of land in Patna was acquired by Lalu’s family members by paying in cash.
Lalu, who is also linked to a number of fodder scams, was sentenced to five years in jail earlier this year.
