Keonjhar: Three labourers were killed and a woman labourer was seriously injured in a landslide at a murram quarry in Tulasichaura village, about 7 km from Keonjhar town on Saturday afternoon.
According to reports, four labourers were engaged in loading the murram in a tractor from the quarry when a portion of it suddenly caved in and fell on the three labourers. The woman labourer had a narrow escape as she was at a little distance from the quarry.
The incident took place between 4 pm and 4.30 pm.
Following information, police and the fire brigade rushed to the spot and brought out three bodies from under the heap of murram. The seriously injured woman was rushed to the district headquarters hospital.
Sources in the locality said that a private company, Gayatri Ltd has been illegally exploring stones in the area, situated inside the reserve forest near the village. After digging out the stones, the company dumps murram soil near the place. The villagers and people living in the nearby areas collect the murram every day. Some local contractors collect this murram and use it for the construction of roads.
