New Delhi: Last rites of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is being performed at Nigam Bodh Ghat in New Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, PM Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and others are present at Nigam Bodh Ghat.
The body of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived at Delhi’s Nigambodh Ghat on Saturday morning. He will be cremated with full state honours. Modi led the troop of top leaders across party lines.
Singh’s final journey began from the Congress headquarters. The party leaders had gathered to pay their respects to the former Prime Minister. His body was carried in a flower-adorned vehicle in a solemn procession as supporters chanted “Manmohan Singh amar rahe (Manmohan Singh lives forever).”
Hundreds of Congress workers, leaders, and supporters walked alongside the procession. Rahul Gandhi accompanied Singh’s family on the way to the ghat.
Meanwhile, the Centre has agreed to allocate space for a memorial of the former Prime Minister. This comes after a war of words broke out between the BJP and the Congress. Earlier, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge had written to the Prime Minister and Home Minister to request Singh’s last rites be performed at a place where a memorial could be built in his memory.
