Bhubaneswar: Martyred Odia Jawan Hemant Panda was accorded a guard of honour before his mortal remains were consigned to flames at Atharanga village under Begunia police limits in Khurda district on Monday.
Earlier, a funeral procession was taken out in the village during which bereaved family members, relatives and villagers paid their last respect. Begunia MLA Prashant Jagadeb, Tehsildar and BDO were also present.
Notbaly, Hemant had sustained bullet injuries in an encounter with terrorists near the Indo-Pak border in Baramulla sector of Jammu and Kashmir and succumbed while undergoing treatment on January 26.
His body was brought in a flight from New Delhi to Bhubaneswar and was later taken to his village on Sunday night.
He had joined the Indian Army in 2017 and was posted in the Baramulla sector.
