Last Sitting Of 17th Lok Sabha: PM Modi Lauds Members For Important Legislations

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday recounted the achievements of the 17th Lok Sabha and said “Reform, Perform and Transform” has been the mantra for the past five years.

Addressing the last sitting of the 17th Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister said several important legislations including abrogation of Article 370, Triple Talaq and Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam were passed in the House. The G20 Presidency brought global recognition while the P20 summit bolstered India’s credentials as the mother of democracy, he added.

Claiming that many things for which several generations had been waiting were accomplished during the tenure of present Lok Sabha, he said with the abrogation of Article 370, full splendor of the Constitution was manifested.

Modi thanked the members for relinquishing Saansad Nidhi and 30% cut in their salary during the COVID pandemic. He lauded the Speaker for his impartial handling of the House, removing subsidised canteen facilities, implementation of digital technology and making the Parliament paperless. Speaking about Sengol, he said it will connect future generations with the moment when India achieved Independence.

On terrorism, he said stringent laws have improved the confidence of those who are fighting against terrorism. “We can proudly say that this country might have lived under the Penal Code for 75 years but now we live under Nyay Samhita,” he added.

The PM stressed on the importance of research and said the National Research Foundation Act will help in making India a global hub of research and innovation. He said the passage of the Digital Personal Data Protection has garnered interest globally. He also talked about the importance of marine, space and cyber security and said we have to create positive capabilities.

On economic reforms, the Prime Minister said capabilities of any democracy can be maximised by ensuring minimum government intervention in citizen’s lives. He informed 60 obsolete laws were removed to improve the ease of doing business.

Speaking on consecration ceremony of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, he said it would give constitutional powers to the future generations. The resolution comprises ‘Samvedna’, ‘Sankalp’ and ‘Sahanubhuti’ along with the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’, he added.
