Bhubaneswar: Family members of late Congress MLA Subal Sahu of Bijepur in Bargarh district joined the ruling BJD on Saturday.
Sahu’s wife Rita Sahu, son Sumit and hundreds of their supporters joined the party in presence of chief minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik at a special function held at the party office.
Welcoming the new inductees, the chief minister said joining of the new members will strengthen the party.
Born on March 11, 1961, at Barpali in Bargarh district, Subal was elected to the assembly thrice on Congress ticket in 2004, 2009 and 2014 elections. He had defeated senior BJD leader Prasanna Acharya in the 2014 assembly polls.
Sahu died of cancer while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on August 22 this year.
