Raipur: At least 8 Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Abujhmarh.
The latest incident in the conflict with Maoists also claimed the life of a jawan, while two others sustained injuries in the line of duty.
A gunfight has been underway in Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh for the last two days.
On Saturday morning, an intense gunfight broke out in Abhujmarh, a hilly, forest area spread across Narayanpur, Bijapur and Dantewada districts.
A joint team of security personnel from Narayanpur, Kanker, Dantewada and Kondagaon districts was out on an anti-Naxal operation in the largely inaccessible area which is considered to be a hotbed of Maoist activities, PTI reported.
District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel from the four districts, Special Task Force (STF) and 53rd battalion of Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) were involved in the operation launched on June 12.
Last week, security forces carried out an operation in Narayanpur district, finishing off six Maoists whose heads carried a total bounty of Rs 38 lakh.
