New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder and convener Abhijeet Dipke on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Delhi Police, accusing the force of extending undue courtesy to gangsters while adopting a tough posture towards students and activists engaged in peaceful protest.
Dipke’s criticism followed the circulation of a video from a press conference in which East Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Dhania was heard referring to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi as “Lawrence Bishnoi Sahab”.
Dipke posted the clip on X, using it to question what he described as the police’s skewed sense of priority.
“Lawrence Bishnoi Sahab. The respect Delhi Police has for gangsters… Wish they showed even 10% of this courtesy to students and activists who are doing nothing but protest,” Dipke wrote.
Police Priorities Under Fire
In another post, the CJP leader argued that law-enforcement attention was being directed at the wrong targets. He said the authorities should be pursuing those involved in genuine criminal activity rather than cracking down on young people and campaigners raising public issues.
“Instead of cracking down on students and activists, the police should focus on actual criminals. This is what happens when the Govt and police have their priorities completely misplaced,” he said.
Dipke’s comments came amid heightened concern over gang-related intimidation after firing near Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff’s vehicle in Mumbai. According to police, three to four rounds were discharged from within a large crowd that had assembled to catch a glimpse of the actor as he was leaving a ground in his car, as reported by The New Indian Express.
Shroff escaped unhurt, but two people were injured in the incident. Among them was the actor’s driver, Firdaus, who received a bullet injury in his left arm.
Three Detained
Meanwhile, three persons allegedly involved in the shooting were detained at Kota Railway Station in Rajasthan while travelling by train, police said. Investigators suspect links between the accused and the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, though no official confirmation has been made.
The detained persons include a 17-year-old minor from Sonipat, Haryana; Hritik Kumar alias Roshan, 22, from Begusarai in Bihar, who reportedly resides in Andheri West and works as a Rapido rider; and 18-year-old Rehan, also from Sonipat.
