Mumbai: Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who wants to expand his influence across the country through extortions, threats, and contract killing, hails from a wealthy family.
Ramesh Bishnoi, Lawrence’s cousin, revealed that the jailed gangster is the son of a retired Haryana constable, and the family owns nearly 110 acres of land in their village, as per a report in the Daily Guardian.
In addition, the gangster’s family spends nearly Rs 35-40 lakhs on his yearly maintenance in jail.
“We have always been financially well-off. Lawrence’s father was a constable in the Haryana Police and owns 110 acres of land in our village,” said Ramesh.
Lawrence Bishnoi, whose real name is Balkaran Brar, is a law graduate from Punjab University.
Currently, Lawrence is imprisoned in the Sabarmati Central Jail and is being investigated by the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The Bishnoi gang is believed to have over 700 shooters, with 300 of them operating in Punjab. The gang is trying to follow Dawood Ibrahim’s pattern to expand its criminal network across the country, noted the investigating officials.
The officials have also found that the gang uses social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube to attract younger members.
