Banapur: Local lawyers’ association observed a dawn-to-dusk bandh at Banapur in Khurda district on Wednesday demanding sub-division status.
The protestors picketed and blocked roads by burning tyres at several places, including Banapur, Nachuni, Balugaon and Gambharimunda, to press for their demand.
Most shops, markets, offices and educational institutions remained shut, while vehicles stayed off the road in these areas as a large number of local residents, including students, traders and intellectuals, extended their support to the strike.
However, emergency services were exempted from the purview of the strike.
