Bhubaneswar: Acting tough on the ongoing dispute between lawyers and police, the Commissionerate Police on Thursday suspended three personnel, including two constables and a havildar, for excesses.
“The matter is under investigation. Action will be taken against whoever found guilty”, said Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh.
Meanwhile, the members of Bhubaneswar Bar Association staged a road blockade by burning tyres in front of the SDJM court here, disrupting vehicular movement on Bhubaneswar-Puri road.
They demanded immediate action against the police personnel who had attacked a lawyer at Nua Bazaar bridge in Cuttack on Tuesday.
“We will continue the strike in peaceful manner till strict action is taken against the police officers who thrashed the lawyer”, an agitator said.
On the other hand, Cuttack Bar Association members have resorted to a cease-work agitation over the same issue.
On Wednesday, a group of agitating lawyers allegedly set a PCR van on fire during their cease-work agitation in front of the RDC office in Cuttack.
Tension erupted when police personnel tried to move the agitators from the RDC office. A clash broke out between the lawyers and the cops, following which the protestors torched the police vehicle.
A group of lawyers had met the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court on the same day seeking his intervention into the incident.
Meanwhile, the members of High Court Bar Association also resorted to a cease-work protest opposing the incident.
