Lawyers Torch PCR Van During Protest In Cuttack

Cuttack: A group of agitating lawyers allegedly set a PCR van on fire during their cease-work agitation in front of the RDC office here on Wednesday.

Tension erupted when police personnel tried to move the agitators from the RDC office. A clash broke out between the lawyers and the cops, following which the protestors torched the police vehicle.

Earlier in the day, a group of lawyers had met the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court seeking his intervention into the attack on a lawyer by some police personnel at Nua Bazaar bridge here the previous day.

Meanwhile, the members of High Court Bar Association also resorted to a cease-work protest opposing the incident.

“We will continue the stir till strict action is taken against the police officers who thrashed the lawyer. However, the future course of action will be decided at a meeting of the bar association scheduled tomorrow,” an agitator said.

Hundreds of lawyers had gheraoed Chauliaganj police station here last night over the same issue.
