Bhubaneswar:  The Special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Court on Saturday remanded the accused, arrested by the commissionerate police for molesting a schoolgirl in Laxmisagar area in Bhubaneswar, to the judicial custody for 14 days.

The order of the court came as the accused did not apply for bail.

Talking to the media, Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi said the police will take him on remand for further interrogation. “We will furnish the digital evidence and other circumstantial evidence to the court so that the accused will be duly punished by the law of the land,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the police had taken him to the spot where the accused had committed the crime. Police later collected the details of the crime from the accused.

The incident was captured on a CCTV camera at Laxmisagar on August 21. In the footage, the accused was seen following the girl while she was going for her tuition classes on a bicycle. He later accosted the victim to a lonely lane at Sabar Sahi and molested her. However, he fled the area after the girl raised an alarm.

The girl’s family had lodged a police complaint the same day.
